What a great weekend it has been!
94 of our beloved cats and dogs found a home in just two days – 82 of them during our Mega Holiday Adoption event on Saturday.
Preparations for the big event started early in the morning on Saturday. Staff and volunteers worked hand-in-hand to care for and feed all the animals, set up additional computer stations, blow up balloons and ready the bounce house for our younger visitors. Some of our sponsors arrived early too, like WhatsHotAustin.com and Raising Cane’s, who provided delicious free tea and fresh lemonade for everyone all day.
Not long after, people started to stream into the shelter – and the outpouring of support the animals received was truly heartwarming. There were so many touching moments. Here are just a few:
Meet Carl and his family
Carl was adopted from our shelter just a week before the big adoption event. His family came back Saturday to let us know how wonderfully well he was doing in his new home – and to find him a doggie friend. “So he’d never be alone again – ever,” they said. What a great family!
Meet Handsome and his new family
Handsome was clearly someone’s beloved pet before he found himself in a Texas kill-shelter through no fault of his own. Now safe at our shelter, Handsome was always sweet and very loving, but you could tell that he was sad and very, very lonely. We’re so happy he’s in a wonderful, loving home now!
Meet Buster and his family
This is Buster’s adoption photo. Do you recognize him? Yes, he is the famous bounding Beagle- one of HSWC’s Hero Squad members! Now he and his friend Connie are going to be together in a wonderful home… forever! Happy life to all!

Samantha waited for a long time for her family to come. Thanks for giving her the loving family she has been waiting for her whole life.
As you can see, our Mega Adoption Event was definitely a huge success. But we couldn’t have done it without you – our donors, sponsors, volunteers- and of course the many families who were willing to open their hearts and homes to one of our beautiful animals. Thank you everyone!
