Animal Care Specialist
(FT and PT Positions Available)
TXHH Animal Care Specialists will understand and communicate Texas Humane Heroes mission, vision and goals through the care and cleaning of the animals in our care
Position Overview
-Handle all animals safely and responsibly
-Be aware of individual animals' personality and requirements
-Follow kennel cleaning protocols
-Display a positive and professional attitude toward customers and co-workers
-Help be responsible for the health, care, and well-being of all animals in our care
Afternoon hours involve actively orchestrating and participating in animal enrichment and exercise.
Organizational Structure:
The Animal Care Specialists report directly to the Adoption Center Manager, Assistant Manager, and Paw Pad and Intake Supervisors.
PLEASE NOTE: this position is physically demanding, including prolonged standing, walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs.
Front Desk and Feline Care Manager
(36-40 hours/week, one weekend day a week required)
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and organized Front Desk and Feline Care Manager to oversee the daily operations of our Leander Adoption Center.
This role combines animal care with excellent customer service, ensuring positive experience for visitors, and maintaining the well-being of our cats.
Key Position Responsibilities:
Cat Care:
-Oversee the care and management of all cats in the center.
-Ensure proper feeding and health monitoring.
-Facilitate socialization and enrichment activities for the cats.
-Oversee off-site program/coordinator
Front Desk Management:
-Greet guests, answer inquiries and provide information about our adoption process
-Manage the adoption paperwork and ensure accurate records are maintained
-Handle phone calls and emails in a friendly, professional manner
-Train staff to assist in all above tasks
Team Leadership:
-Supervise and train volunteers and staff in animal care and customer service.
-Coordinate with the Dog Manager to ensure adequate coverage in all areas of the adoption center.
-Ongoing training and development for all staff
Additional Responsibilities:
-Must be comfortable working with dogs
Organizational Structure:
Front Desk and Feline Care Manager reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
Foster Veterinary Technician
Position Overview
This position will work closely with the Intake Manager and shelter veterinary team, and is half veterinary technician duties and half foster coordinator duties. The ability to multitask is a must.
Position Responsibilities:
Foster Coordination
-Primary contact between fosters and TXHH
(Must be available to answer foster questions outside of normal working hours during emergencies.)
-Coordinate with the Intake and Adoption teams
-Evaluate animal behavior and medical issues
-Administer preventative medications and vaccinations
-Hold foster orientation for new foster volunteers
-Encourage fosters to send pics and stories when they can
Foster Coordinator and Surgery Participation with Intake Manager
-Work with the Intake Manager to ensure all foster animals are scheduled for surgery in a timely manner
-Be responsible for foster animal drop off and pick-up
-Ensure medical is up-to-date for all foster animals
-Schedule animals for surgery
Shelter Medical Tech Responsibilities:
-Daily cleaning, feeding, watering and medicating all program animals who are in isolation and treatment areas
-Isolating and medicating new cases as they arise
-Communicate with staff effectively to ensure cleaning procedures are followed correctly
-Administer regular preventive medications and vaccinations.
-Coordinate with Adopters when contacted regarding 14-Day Promise
-Communicate with adopters regarding animal health concerns and treatment plans
-Prepare medications needed for adopters and give detailed instructions
-Respond to all communication of our 14-Day Promise Adopters within 24 hours
- Schedule exams/follow up appointments as needed
-Administer all necessary intake exams, preventives, etc, to prepare animals for adoption.
Daily Operations
-Administer vaccines for public animals during daily vet tech checks
-Speak with potential adopters/adopters who have questions/concerns about animals’ health
-Sign and explain medical waivers when necessary
Cross-trained in all surgery and vaccination clinic areas:
-Recovery Tech
-Assistant Surgery Tech
-Special Surgery Tech
-Vaccination Clinic roles/duties
-Ability to use Clinic HQ system to input care and medical information
Other:
-Knowledgeable on all adoption and clinic pricing, adoption counseling standards, and medical protocols
-Understanding of the five freedoms of animal welfare
-Fear Free certification obtained within 30 days of hire

Veterinary Medical Team Technician (Full-time)
Position Overview:
The Texas Humane Heroes Veterinarian Medical Team Technician will understand and be able to communicate Texas Humane Heroes mission, vision and goals. As a Veterinary Medical Team Technician, you will play a crucial role in the health and well-being of our animals. You will provide high-quality medical care and support the overall operations of our adoption center.
Key Position Responsibilities:
-Provide routine medical care to dogs and cats, including medications, vaccinations and treatments
-Conduct routine health checks and monitor the health status of animals
-Maintain accurate medical records and ensure all documentation is up to date
-Educate and adopters and the general public on animal care and health
-Perform laboratory tests, such as blood work and urinalysis
-Assist with the intake process, including health assessments and vaccinations
-Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of medical facilities and equipment
-Provide compassionate care and handling of animals with various temperaments
Qualifications:
-Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
-Minimum two years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician (preferably in a shelter or adoption center setting)
-Strong knowledge of veterinary medical practices, procedures and terminology
-Excellent animal handling skills and a genuine love for animals
-Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively with staff, volunteers and the general public
-Proficiency in using veterinary software for record-keeping and scheduling.
-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
-Ability to handle physically demanding tasks, including lifting and restraining animals

The Texas Humane Heroes’ Spay/Neuter Recovery Technician will understand and be able to communicate our mission, vision and goals.
As a Spay/Neuter Recovery Technician, you will play a crucial role in the health and well-being of animals in providing post-operative care and monitoring to animals recovering from spay/neuter surgery.
Key Position Responsibilities:
-Monitor animals recovering from surgical procedures to ensure their safety, well-being and comfort
-Administer medications as prescribed
-Providing post-operative care and monitoring vital signs
-Assist in the handling and restraint of animals during the recovery process.
-Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene in the recovery area and overall clinic
-Provide medical care to dogs and cats, including administering medications, vaccinations and treatments.
-Maintain accurate medical records and ensure all documentation is up to date
