All adoptions happen in-person at our Leander Adoption Center or offsite events
Dog adoption fees are $150 and up – fees are based on a variety of factors, including age, size, length of stay, and more – please see individual profiles for prices
We encourage all household members to meet the dog prior to adoption
If another dog lives in the home, a supervised meet-and-greet is required prior to adoption
The adoption process can take around 90 minutes, including meeting the pet, completing paperwork, and the adoption counseling process
Dog Adoption Requirements
Treat the dog as a family members and companion
Provide recommended vaccinations by your veterinarian or at our low-cost vaccination clinic, as required by law
Do not leave the dog outdoors or unattended for extended periods of time
Provide them with annual veterinarian visits, and when sick or injured
If the pet does not work out, you may return them to TXHH within 30 day of the adoption by appointment only. To schedule, please email surrender@txhh.org. No surrender fee will be charged; though adoption fees are non-refundable. After 30 days, any returned pet will be processed as an OwnerSurrender, with a $250 surrender fee for dogs
