Dog Adoption Process
- All adoptions happen in-person at our Leander Adoption Center or offsite events
- Dog adoption fees are $150 and up – fees are based on a variety of factors, including age, size, length of stay, and more – please see individual profiles for prices
- We encourage all household members to meet the dog prior to adoption
- If another dog lives in the home, a supervised meet-and-greet is required prior to adoption
- The adoption process can take around 90 minutes, including meeting the pet, completing paperwork, and the adoption counseling process
Dog Adoption Requirements
- Treat the dog as a family members and companion
- Provide recommended vaccinations by your veterinarian or at our low-cost vaccination clinic, as required by law
- Do not leave the dog outdoors or unattended for extended periods of time
- Provide them with annual veterinarian visits, and when sick or injured
- If the pet does not work out, adopters must return the pet to Texas Humane Heroes anytime within the first 30 days at no charge – after 30 days, the pet can be returned during business hours and a $250 surrender fee is required
- Cannot adopt pet as a gift
