Dog/Cat Animal Care Specialist
The Animal Care Specialist is responsible for the daily care and wellbeing of animals housed at the shelter. This role involves feeding, cleaning, monitoring animal health and behavior, and assisting with adoptions and intake. The ideal candidate is compassionate, detail-oriented, and committed to providing a high standard of care to all animals.
Starting Rates:
Cats – $13.50/hr
Dogs – $15/hr
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide daily care, feeding, and enrichment for animals including dogs, cats, and other small animals.
- Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and shelter areas to ensure a safe, hygienic environment.
- Monitor animals for signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes and report concerns to veterinary or supervisory staff.
- Administer medications and basic treatments as directed by a veterinarian.
- Assist with animal intake procedures, including assessments, vaccinations, and documentation.
- Support adoption efforts by interacting with the public, providing animal information, and facilitating meet-and-greets.
- Facilitate animal adoption counseling and approve or deny adopters.
- Maintain accurate records of animal care, health, and behavior.
- Follow safety protocols and proper animal handling techniques.
- Participate in community outreach and offsite events when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
High- Quality High-Volume Spay Neuter (HQHVSN) Surgery Technician
We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and professional Surgery Technician to join our team at our High-Quality, High-Volume Spay/Neuter (HQHVSN) Clinic. This role is critical in providing high-quality medical care to shelter animals and affordable services to the public and area rescues. The ideal candidate is a positive team player, passionate about animal welfare, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is committed to supporting pets, the people who love them, and their fellow technicians and veterinarian.
The HQHVSN Surgery Technician ensures the smooth movement of patients through the daily surgical schedule from pre- to post-op. This role includes checking in, weighing, and sexing patients, drug calculation and preparation, anesthesia induction, surgical preparation and monitoring, and post-operative care of patients. The surgery technician is expected to maintain clear, professional, and friendly communication at the workplace at all times and provide excellent patient care with adherence to staff safety and clinic sanitation standards. This position is cross-trained with duties of two other Surgery Technicians who are responsible for assisting in inducing anesthesia and recovering patients after surgery.
Rreports to the Director of Medical Services.
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience handling dogs and cats in veterinary, shelter, or animal care settings.

- Ability to calculate dosage volumes using clinic protocols and basic math skills.
- Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Strong protocol compliance, attention to detail, and teamwork.
- Fear Free Shelters animal handling certification within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with anesthesia monitoring or drug preparation.
- Familiarity with HQHVSN spay/neuter, shelter medicine, or fast-paced veterinary clinics (such as ECs).
- Knowledge of low-stress and Fear Free handling principles.
