Fifth Annual Chili Cook Off

Texas Humane Heroes hosted our Fifth Chili Cookoff last Saturday and succeeded in furthering our mission to eliminate pet homelessness and improve pet lives. The weekend event directly led to 20 animals being adopted by local heroes. Additionally, more than 200 people came out to support the organization and enjoy delicious chili. Along with those out to taste the chili varieties, 13 teams competed in the cookoff to secure the first, second, and third place victories. This year’s winning teams were Bowls of Steel, Joe Blow & Son Chili, and Chili by Jazz for first, second, and third place respectively.

The event began five years ago as a way to have a fun winter event when Texas’ temperature is frequently at its finest. This year, the space was expanded so more guests could participate comfortably. As Kristen Huguley commented “the weather was beautiful and spirits were high as everyone enjoyed a fun family event that helps us save more lives.” CJ’s Catering sponsored the cookoff by providing attendees with chili during the event. The money raised from donations for all-you-can-eat chili as well as the competition go to support the organization and the dogs and cats we work with to find lifetime homes. Children were also able to enjoy and could participate in face painting or coloring while enjoying the afternoon and chili themselves. The event has continued to grow and will hopefully be an even bigger success in its sixth year in 2015.
