Hello HEROES – Happy October!
The Countdown Is On! The 17th Annual Chili Cook-Off Is Just Two Weeks Away!
Help us celebrate the second chances you help make possible.
Join us Saturday, November 7, at Texas Humane Heroes for a day of delicious chili, live music, and community fun.
Thanks to community support, the new dog kennels are open, giving dogs a more comfortable place to stay while they wait for a family. And the need continues: so far in 2026, we’ve taken in more than 2,500 animals, and 2,385 have found homes through adoption. That’s a lot of second chances, made possible by people like you.
This year’s Chili Cook-Off features:
- 20+ chili teams serving up their best recipes
- Beer and wine
- Silent Auction
- Putting Green
- Kid’s Area
- Plenty of adoptable pets ready to meet you!
Bring your family, invite your friends, and be part of another great day for rescued dogs and cats.
Every ticket helps provide care, shelter, and second chances. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
Please note that tickets are required for entry to the Texas Humane Heroes property on event day.

Behind the Scenes: When the Lights Go Out
A rainy day. A power outage. Surgeries underway.
When the power went out at Texas Humane Heroes, the team mobilized quickly. The PAW unit powered the generator, volunteers delivered backup fuel, and Dr. Sthanu continued performing spay and neuter surgeries by headlamp.
Every scheduled surgery was completed. That’s what teamwork and a community willing to step help can accomplish.

Dog of the Month: Winston
After nearly four years at Texas Humane Heroes, Winston has finally found his family!
His adopters first fostered him a few months ago, then kept coming back to visit. Those visits led to forever.
We’ll miss Winston, but we’re thrilled he’s home. He was TXHH’s longest-waiting VIP at the time of his adoption, and other dogs are still waiting for their chance.
Could you be the one who changes everything for a dog who’s been waiting too long?

When Jesse arrived, broken and missing teeth, swollen gums, and significant mouth pain made life uncomfortable. Treatment helped, but painful flare-ups continued for months.
With guidance from dental specialist Dr. Markay Nyquist of Heart of Texas Veterinary Specialty Center, our friends at Firehouse Animal Health Center helped Jesse undergo a full-mouth extraction.
Now Jesse is feeling better and ready for his next chapter: finding a family to call his own.
Could Jesse be the missing piece in your family?
