Texas Humane Heroes’ Year in Review!

TXHH's Year in Review

What a year! In total, we found forever homes for a total of 2,525 animals! That’s 2,525 animals united with their forever families, and a bunch of families who have found the love of a pet and their best friend. With your help, we hope to increase the number of adoptions this year!

2017 was packed full of fun and memorable events. Some events planned and others were surprises, like our three emergency intake situations. On March 10th, a home in Killeen, TX caught on fire, leaving 41 dogs without a home. After being contacted by Killeen Animal Control, we immediately rushed to their aid and brought the dogs into our program. By May, all 41 of these dogs found their forever homes! Read more about their story here.

Then there was the mayhem that Hurricane Harvey caused. Many animals lost their homes due to this natural disaster. So many that most shelter in Texas were filled past max capacity. That’s where we came in. We helped take the load off of other shelters by bringing some of their currently adoptable animals to our adoption centers. Since then, all of the Harvey cats and dogs have found new homes except one– the lovely kitty Eva! We are sure she will find her new family soon! Check our our Facebook Note here.

The most recent rescue event happened in late November when a cat hoarding case in Killeen was discovered. We took in 36 cats who were all very overwhelmed by their sudden change in environment. Most of these were beautiful siamese mixes and, while many have found their familes, we still have some available for adoption if you are in the market. Read their story here.

Outside of these unforeseen rescue operations, we accomplished a lot more in 2017. Our Diamonds in the Ruff Gala was a night of fun and fundraising! In one night we raised over $65k thanks to all the events’ attendees, sponsors, and donors. Check out photos from the event here and keep an eye out on social media and our website for this year’s gala!

Another exciting thing that happened in 2017 was the two Pets for Patriots adoptions we had. Both Maury (left) and Deuce (right) found loving homes through this wonderful program and partnership we have  with Pets for Patriots! We look forward to uniting more veterans and active military with their new family members this year.

It’s a brand new year we are itching to get started on saving even more lives! It is our goal to save over 2,500 lives and to partner with more municipal shelters in Texas to increase save rates and work towards our mission to eliminate pet homelessness. We also hope to assist in more emergency rescues. We have big goals and know that we can achieve them with your love and support. Help us do more in 2018!

How can you do more? Attending our events is not only tons of fun but these events directly benefit our lifesaving mission! We have lots of family-friendly events with our first one, Rescue Roundup, right around the corner! Get more information about all our events on our website: HumaneHeroes.org/events
